youth drinking!

Today in Movement Ed Devin and I taught our class a game that simulated what it feels like while drinking alcohol. At first when we picked our topic we weren't too sure what game we were going to play. We did some research on youth and drinking and found out that ever 1 out of 3 6th graders have drank alcohol. This has caused many problems in many areas and they are trying to get a hold of this age and their drinking problem. Kids that young shouldn't be having the time to be doing stuff like that! Their brains are still growing and developing and drinking alcohol does sometimes put a stop to their brain growing and can cause brain damage! We played the dizzy bat game and had each team walk through the cones in order to feel the affects of drinking! It worked extremely well and I feel it would definitely be a good game for 6th graders to play in order for them to understand the severity of alcohol.

Frusterated!

I switched majors from Elementary Education/Special Education to Physical Education and Health. In the process of switching I still am stuck with my advisor who knows nothing about physical education and what to do next for each of the classes. In transferring into SRU I kind of got the short end of the stick because I transferred in last minute. It's amazing to me how we pay all this money to come to a college that is supposed to help prepare us for the future and in the end we are still trying to pull all the strings we can and advise ourselves with out anyone to help. It seems like this is not only happening to me but to others as well. You pretty much have to work your way into the system with certain profs and advisers in order for you to get the classes, schedule, and even grades you want let alone deserve. It makes people like me who is going back to school after taking time off and paying for it myself a huge hassle. Not knowing what to do next and figuring out just becomes a lot of extra work when it really shouldn't be this difficult!!!

UConn vs Syracuse

While out with a couple friends catching up after break on Thursday night our conversation was non stop till my ADD self looked up at the TV's and saw UConn vs Syracuse playing in the background... As I looked I wasn't really focusing on my multitasking skills I was drawn in to probably one of the best games ever! At the end of the game the game winning shot was made which ended in the 2nd game ever played in basketball history! 6 overtimes! Watching these guys drag off the court because they physically couldn't play anymore was the craziest thing ever! Then to see the walk on's doing jumping jacks on the sidelines to get warmed up to go in as a sub. That was probably for some of them the most they have played on a College court! I love watching College Basketball for this reason! They are giving 110% and playing for the love of the game! That is why I played basketball and many other sports for the love and passion of the game! Cheering on the teams who are giving their best effort for the love of the game is a great way to remember why I love college sports!!

Buffalo Bills

My uncle used to work for the Miami Dolphins as their Sr Ticket Sales Director and is now working for the Buffalo Bills as their TV Media Manager. This past week has been interesting for the Bills. During the trade that happened this weekend the Bills received T.O. to join their team for the next season. Something needed to happen to the Bills team and it did! Not that it was a great thing but it has brought a lot of publicity to the Buffalo Bills Team. My uncle has been in the office all weekend and is piled with work right now. It's interesting to see how in trading in the NFL sometimes the worst candidate could be the best candidate to choose. Even though TO has a sucky attitude most of the time and is not a great role model he is a decent football player.

Sunny Florida

Ok so running this morning on the beach was the best feeling in the world!!! I've been training for this half marathon on a treadmill and the track NOT FUN!!! Being able to have nice weather to run in is soooo incredibly awesome!!! I got to see dolphins this morning and the sea gulls were out!! I'm definitely thinking that moving somewhere where it's warm is a definite!!! I used to live here and loved it!! Jogging in the morning was probably the best high! And on the beach you get more of a work out because of how you push off the sand! Next time you are at the beach or anywhere nice take a second and enjoy the weather outside and God's beautiful creation! I'm going back to the beach!!;)

Zumba

At the YMCA where I seem to spend most of my life it seems we have these group exercise classes. Now all this is included in your membership except for zumba. Zumba costs money to attend the class but seems to pull in on average twice a week 35-40 people. Zumba is a bunch of different latin dance moves to crazy upbeat intense music. Ladies LOVE it!! I have taken a personal liking for it because it is a highimpact class that I end up sweating more to then doing cardio upstairs in the fitness center. I am planning on getting ZUMBA certified in May of this year. I am very excited because these ladies of all ages come in from their crazy hectic days and end up leaving the class with full fledged smiles on their faces and knowing that they have been able to have fun while exercising!!! Some people have lost 20lbs just doing zumba!! I recommend at least trying this class if you even think it might look interesting. You may be doing dance moves you never thought you would be doing BUT what happens in Zumba stays in Zumba!!

Technology in Music!

I was thinking today while talking to a friend about new songs to download that I have never downloaded any song to any music player! LAME! I know! Kind of crazy in today's world with technology at its finest! I always had a CD player as a kid! Which was the coolest thing that I could have ever received for christmas as a child! That was the last time I bought anything for music except for the got to have cd's! I do own a shuffle and an ipod the basic. My shuffle is so old it still gets plugged right into the computer not by a cord. AND my ipod is pretty basic. The greatest thing about this is... they were all given to me! I didn't have to pay a cent for them, and the music was already on them! I am not picky about music I love it all! My friend Mike just told me the other day that I could have his MP3 player whenever he bought his next new toy! All in all it works out great for me!! Just hope I keep running into people like that!:)
